Welterweight is the most popular division in the boxing world today. Outcasting the heavyweight division, a 24 year old Victor ‘Vicious” Ortiz is a southpaw from Oxnard, has risen above to be the next undefeated in World Boxing Ally. April 16 was a spectacular victory for Ortiz when he stepped up to the welterweight division and win over the unconquered André Berto. Ortiz and Berto hellaciously traded power shots over the ring but Ortiz was the quicker and more active fighter throughout. Scoring a 2nd round knockdown and a surviving knockdown in the sixth round and at the end of 12 rounds a unanimous decision was rendered to Victor Ortiz over Berto as a new WBC Welterweight Champion. Ortiz now begins preparing for the fight of his life against boxing biggest star Floyd Mayweather on September 17.
While Floyd “Money” Mayweather who at 34 is 10 years older than Ortiz will return to the ring to face the hard hitting and explosive current WBC champion Victor “Vicious” Ortiz. Mayweather last ring appearance took place on May 1, 2010 which he performed brilliantly and dominated Sugar Shane Mosley to a unanimous 12 round decision victory. Mayweather is a good defensive fighter and his defense is impregnable. The undefeated pound for pound contender has proven to be the greatest superior fighter of the Golden Boy Era. On the other hand, Mayweather fighting style does not throw as many punches. He conserved his energy not to get tired. He lets his opponents throw and he counters with the superb defense and single punch leads.
Heading on to Manny Pacquiao as Mayweather’s dangerous opponent, fight with Ortiz is a plan preparation against Pacquiao. This is an interesting move which I think being a tactical warm up for Mayweather, by facing a young and determined southpaw in Victor Ortiz then moving on to Manny Pacquiao who is also a southpaw is the right way to go. This is precisely why he chose Ortiz. I think Mayweather will dominate Ortiz with his speed and precision and could possible get a stoppage later in the fight possible on cuts. And for the record, Mayweather scared of the possibility he might have his first loss against Pacquiao. He must face Pacquiao to erase his image as a coward to fight the true pound for pound king, whose speed would be a big dispute for him. If Mayweather defeat Ortiz his bout with Pacquiao will definitely be a blockbuster and a history to record .
